Brief Biography

Maria Vazquez-Low was born in Mexico and grew up as a border commuter between the U.S. and Mexico. She attended Arizona State School for Deaf and enrolled in a public school during her high school years. Maria received her Associate Arts and Liberal Arts in General Education at Pima Community College (PCC) - West Campus in 2000. While studying as international student, she was an ASL tutor and then was in charge of ASL laboratory. As alumni, she returned and taught American Sign Language (ASL) at PCC and Miles Exploratory Learning Center. Maria earned a Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Studies at California State University- Northridge in 2010 and a Master in Sign Language in Education degree at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. For 20+ years, Maria taught different ASL courses. With so much Deaf Mexicana pride, she enjoys introducing hearing learners to the richness of Lengua de Senas Mexican (LSM is the language used by deaf people in Mexico), Deaf education and Deaf communities. She wants to inspire, put in our Deaf world to contribute with the intention of "doing good." and make a difference together!

Maria is a proud mother of a lovely Asian/Mexican daughter who is a CODA (Child of Deaf Adult) and is bilingual (ASL and English). She also has two dogs. She enjoys walking with her dogs, hanging out with her family and friends, doing outdoor and indoor activities, socializing at Deaf events and trying different foods.
