Donia Torabian
Lecturer
Faculty - Child and Adolescent Development
Brief Biography
My name is Donia Torabian. I am the daughter of forced migrants from Iran and lucky to descend from and learn from/with people who teach me community, nurturing, and voice. I am Muslim, Queer, and neurodivergent; I am a student (PsyD in counseling psychology), a teacher (here and as an educational therapist), a human (with non-academic interests too like gardening, pottery, and floral design); I am also a sister, a partner, a mother (to two doggies, a fish, and many plants).
It is important to me that the classroom is a space that is rooted in culture and healing justice; a space that is co-created from day one; a space that facilitates the freedom to collaborate and intellectual adventure; a space in which each member of the community is supported to both ground themselves through their own cultural and ancestral knowledge systems and, with the support of that strong base which reminds them where they come from, to flourish and grow in a revolutionary and liberatory way; a space that feels like a garden.
As an educator, I see you for more than what you are able to produce - I see your whole humanity and am here to support your flourishing in whatever ways I can!
