Brief Biography

Asil Yassine is a Ph.D. candidate in Education at the University of California, Los Angeles studying Human Development and Psychology. Her research focuses on Arab American Muslim youth and how they make sense of their identity through the lens of Islamic psychology. She is a qualitative researcher with particular interest in indigenous qualitative methodologies that honor mind, body, and spirit as legitimate sources of knowledge. Asil was a middle and high school educator for many years in public schools in both Detroit, Michigan and Somerville, Massachusetts. She has served as a Teaching Associate at UCLA and a Teaching Fellow at Harvard University.

In addition to lecturing at CSUN, Asil is a Psychological Associate providing psychotherapy at Downtown Mind Wellness in Los Angeles, California.
