Brief Biography
Ana was born and raised in the city of Huntington Park, California and attended LAUSD schools before enrolling at UCLA for her undergraduate studies. Throughout her academic trajectory as a first generation Mexican American student, Ana has benefited greatly from participation in TRIO programs such as Telacu Talent Search and the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program. She has been awarded numerous scholarships, most notably the Bill & Melinda Gates Millennium Scholarship, that have allowed her to pursue a doctoral degree at UCLA's Higher Education and Organizational Change (HEOC) program under the mentorship of Dr. Cecilia Rios-Aguilar. Ana is a passionate advocate of creating access to education for first-generation students of color through advising, program coordination, mentorship, pedagogical innovation, and organizational transformation. Her research sheds light on the experiences of underrepresented students of color in higher education.
